February 15:
Some thieves came into the house and stole our laptop, video camera and cell phone as well as my Uncle's camera. BUGGER! They didn't get our main camera so we still have all our pictures but we have no means of transferring them from the camera. It happened at about 4:00 p.m. while we were all sitting in the next room! I had just put the laptop and camera on the kitchen counter to charge them up. I was downloading the video from our day and was checking on it every couple of minutes (I'm a bit impatient) and it was only a matter of moments between checks that the asshole came in, scooped everything up and left again! Although we had a witness that saw him jump the wall with our stuff, no one stopped him (this is Africa and this is common place). It took the police over five hours to eventually show up and when they did they told us it was likely professionals who had been watching us for a long time. Because we are in Sedgefield, which is a fairly affluent community, we are driving a rental car and we come and go carrying backpacks and things, they know we are tourists and tourists usually have expensive cameras, cash and things. So they waited until they had an opportunity to snatch something. Although all the gates were locked, they scaled the wall to get in. It all happened in a matter of seconds. But we are all fine, it's only stuff and life goes on. (We have since replaced the laptop).
On a much happier note, we went shark diving with Great White Sharks today in Mossel Bay with a company called "White Shark Africa". We had nine different Great Whites around the cage! It was amazing!!! They are huge and really do look like Jaws' especially close up when they happen to bump the cage! We got some awesome footage (the video part was stolen) but we still have photos and if I ever figure out a way to upload them I will . . . . . They are so awe inspiring in the water as they glide past the cage and slowly float by. But, then you see one grab onto the bait and witness the power and the destructive, violent thrashing and think, "boy I'm glad I'm in this cage"! ............ On to the elephant riding!!
